On the cusp
Posted December 31, 2007Looking back on 2007 might be a good way to start the new year. It has been a pretty exciting one, and a pretty exhausting one, too. With the music industry structures changing, there are a lot of gaps to be filled for the artists – while the freedom of the new media make them enthuse, the lack of professionalism in the business does not help them to find their path, not necessarily creatively, but in terms of their careers. While it is wonderful to be able to record almost anywhere and put your music on the internet for general consumption, it might well be frustrating for a creati... more
La rentrée...
Posted July 30, 2007Means ” The homecoming ”, the ” back to work ” stumbling block after the holidays, in other words, the most busy period of the year in France, in the commercial context, the period from September to December. It augurs well for our artists and activities, here at Métisse Music, where we are trying to prepare the activities that will take place, in the best way we can, while the telephone is still quiet. We are celebrating the return of Harold Budd to the fold. Harold’s work was part of Brian Eno’s Opal Music catalogue, which we have been representing, and ... more
That's the way it goes...
Posted March 19, 2007That’s how it goes… Springtime is nearly here, there is a huge amount of things happening, but our editorial is still talking about the end of last year ! Here is a little general update on current affairs at Métisse Music for the curious: March turns out to be THE month of Jazz for us, with some very important and exciting releases: The quartet album of the Mehldau/Metheny collaboration is out on Warner since the beginning of the month. It covers a whole range of colours, from reminders of the West Coast jazz of the CTI label in the seventies with a guitar sound reminisce... more
On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me...
Posted December 07, 2006...five new CDs from German based jazz label ACT, four new CDs from Métisse music composers and writers, three new CDs from East European specialists Asphalt Tango, two from Jaro Medien… and a partridge in a pear tree, of course ! We are getting carried away; Christmas is not quite there yet, but the musical presents are already starting to accumulate and there is plenty of promise for 2007 in evidence in this festive month of December, which is filled with exceptional concerts and with pre-Christmas parties. This week alone, there are three live jazz events: the concert of the duo... more
The wheels are turning...
Posted September 01, 2006After a hopefully most enjoyable and certainly necessary summer break for most of you as for ourselves, the wheels have gotten into motion again since mid-August with preparations for the events of the most active part of the year : the ” rentrée ”, as the French call it, the “return home”, to work, school and the big commercial finish for Christmas. Here at Métisse Music, everybody is back at their desks and trying to cope with the half yearly accounts, an astounding number of e-mails and news of all kind, and of course, listening to some splendid new music. W... more
Time keeps on slipping, into the future...
Posted March 07, 2006That’s what Steve Miller sang, many years ago, in his song “Fly like an Eagle”. And he couldn’t be more right ! February and March are bringing us two new ” French ” signings which we are very proud to be able to represent : Yaron Herman, a young jazz pianist based in France, of Israeli origin. His first CD on French label Laborie will be out in April, with Naïve distributing. He has a terrific buzz going for him here in France. More about this in the “latest news”, below. And the tandem of Mathis Haug and Seamus Taylor, not really Fr... more
Greetings and a very Happy New Year to all
Posted January 04, 2006The last three months of 2005 have been incredibly hectic, and the temperature started getting back down to “normal” only a week before Christmas. So now, we will be doing our best to bring the information on the site up to date, while preparing for MIDEM in the South of France, at the end of January.
More news within the next few days… and meanwhile, all good wishes to you all for 2006 – may it be a creative and adventurous year, and may all the talented musicians of the world continue to be able to make a living from making music, for our pleasure and delight.
