Editorial: The wheels are turning...
Posted September 01, 2006After a hopefully most enjoyable and certainly necessary summer break for most of you as for ourselves, the wheels have gotten into motion again since mid-August with preparations for the events of the most active part of the year : the ” rentrée ”, as the French call it, the “return home”, to work, school and the big commercial finish for Christmas.
Here at Métisse Music, everybody is back at their desks and trying to cope with the half yearly accounts, an astounding number of e-mails and news of all kind, and of course, listening to some splendid new music.
We have concluded a sub-publishing agreement with Act Publishing, the German based publishing catalogue associated with the jazz label of the same name. It comprises a number of prestigious acts/composers including e.s.t. (Esbjörn Svensson Trio) which will have a new album out here in France in September; Victoria Tolstoy, Eric Watson and other new releases on Siggi Loch’s label will certainly grab the attention of many jazz aficionados. More about this in the “latest news” section.
During the summer, the recording activities of our artists have been at a high:
Following his much admired solo album, Yaron Herman has been recording as part of the young French ensemble NEWTOPIA lead by alto sax player Raphael Imbert; the CD “Suite Elégiaque” will be out end of October. A the same time, Herman’s splendid first solo “Variations” will get a second commercial push; Yaron came back from the summer break with great reviews from a tour of Israel and a solo concert in Montevideo, Uruguay – amongst others. Apart from his forthcoming European concert dates, he will be touring China in early 2007 !
Giovanni Mirabassi’s piano solo ‘Cantopiano’, produced by Philippe Ghielmetti, will be out on Minium/Discograph soon – a French chanson album which will certainly get a lot of attention and do very well for this talented, musically sparkling pianist.
Mathis of Mathis & the Mathematiks has started recording the group’s next project, and will in parallel be touring France with an acoustic solo/duo project in autumn.
Man, our splendid duo from Nantes refusing to be put into any musical drawer, have finished recording their next album, inspired by Keaton’s movie “The General”, and tell us that it is a big departure from their last three – already due to the fact that there will be some singing to be heard on one or two tracks, and that there is hardly any piano ! They are also busy composing and recording music for several audio-visual projects, cartoons, short movies et al.
John Greaves’ beautiful Paul Verlaine project is also finished and mixed and will reach the ears of his fans and conquer a whole lot of new ones, probably not before 2007 though.
This is just the beginning … on the creative side, things are moving fast and we will certainly have more good news to report in the near future.
