Posted January 19, 2007Jacky Terrasson solo album for Blue Note is in the can, and scheduled for release in France on March 26. To co-incide with the release, a concert is scheduled in Paris in the evening of the 26th, at the Théatre de l’Athénée Louis-Jouvet.
Yaron Herman will record his next album in a trio formation (piano, bass, drums) with Matt Brewer and Gerald Cleaver here in France at the end of January. His label Laborie (distr. Naïve) has scheduled the release for 2007.
Jazz pianist Kenny Werner recording for Blue Note Records is in the can. The CD “Lawn Chair Society” is scheduled for US release on March 6, 2007. The band, Kenny plus Dave Douglas (trumpet), Chris Potter (sax), Brian Blade (drums) and Scott Colley (bass) will celebrate the release with a week of concerts at US jazz club Dizzy’s in March. He will tour France with Jean-Michel Pilc as a duo in 2007.
The Shin() will start their French dates of 2007 with the "Jazz sous les Pommiers" Festival in Normandy, in May. New Jaro signing () from New York ( a great combination of instruments and brilliant musicians) have a new album ready for release in Europe in April, and will grace our shores with their new music for the first time during the Cognac Festival "Blues Passions" end of July, 2007.
Rounder Europe second “No Blues” album “Ya Dunia”, a cross-over between blues, folk and oriental music, will be on release in February (distr. Harmonia Mundi). The first one, “Farewell Shalabyie” had received a great reception from media and public alike. Haytham Safia, the oud player of No Blues, has a solo album on the market entitled “Blossom”, based on classical Arab music but with lots of other musical inflections.
Rounder USA has collected a good number of Grammy nominations again: Rhonda Vincent “All American Bluegrass Girl” (best bluegrass album), James Hunter “People gonna talk” (best traditional blues album), Irma Thomas “After the Rain” (best contemporary blues album), etc.
There is some news in the East, too, via Asphalt Tango. A new album of the great Fanfare Ciocarlia is scheduled for March 22nd (Distr. Abeille Musique), featuring the most famous gypsy voices : Saban Bajramovic (Serbia), Esma Redzepova (Macedonia), Ljiljna Butler (Bosnia), Mitsou (Hungary)...amongst others.
No big holiday break for ACT, beginning with the coming here in Paris of the brilliant young trio [em], composed by pianist Michael Wollny (solo piano album to be released soon), Eva Kruse on double bass and Eric Schaeffer on drums, all from Berlin. To be released end of August, the bewitching Solveig Slettahjell within the Slow Motion Quintet who will enchant you with their celebration of restraint in a third album called “Good Rain”.
Talented saxophonist Cristof Lauer will release “Blues In Mind”, an original combination of musicians with Michel Godart on tuba and serpent (the tuba’s predecessor), and Gary Husband on drums and piano.
And Act keeps on discovering new talents, with German guitarist and singer Torsten Goods as the latest example. His album “Irish Heart” demonstrates his Irish origins as well as his love for jazz guitar, which he plays with amazing skill.
