We are proud and happy to announce the signature of the World Circuit catalogue for France to Métisse Music from 1st January, 2008. Nick Gold’s World Circuit Records, UK is probably the most prestigious independent world music label worldwide. The publishing catalogue of World Circuit Music includes compositions by Alki Farka Touré, Cheikh Lô, Radio Tarifa, Oumou Sangaré, Orlando Cachaïto Lopez, Bellemou Messaoud and many more.

The release of Giovanni Mirabassi trio album with Leon Parker on drums and Gianluca Renzi on acoustic bass has been set for February 8 by French independent Discograph. The trio has been invited by MIDEM to perform on the opening day of Sunday, 27th January, at the Carlton jazz club. Date that will be followed by a French tour in February and March.

John Greaves’ new recording “Verlaine”, compositions to poems by Paul Verlaine sung by John and with a beautiful production, will be on release through Zig Zag Territoires/Harmonia Mundi, on February 21. John will be in concert at the New Morning on March 12.

Kip Hanrahan’s latest American Clavé production, his own “Beautiful Scars” has been set for release in France through Enja Records/Harmonia Mundi in March, together with the re-editions of the three American Clavé classics “Coup de Tête”, “Tenderness” and “Vertical’s Currency” across Europe.

The album “Mare Nostrum” recorded by the musical team of Paolo Fresu (tr), Richard Galliano (accordion) and the Swedish pianist Jan Lundgren will be out on German jazz independent ACT at the end of January. This is a very melodic production that has a cinematographic dimension to it and features compositions by the three musicians. The same period will see the release of a musical review of saxophone player Heinz Sauer’s career, “The Journey”. The compilation celebrates the 75th birthday of this discreet jazz great from Germany, still vastly underestimated within and beyond the frontiers of his country. On the concert scene, Vietnamese singer Huong Thanh and guitarist Nguyên Lê will be at the New Morning on January 22 . Their septet will perform the magnificent and subtle fusion of traditional Vietnamese song with contemporary jazz as recorded on their most recent album “Fragile Beauty”.

The year starts off with a bang and the sound of trumpets with the releases of German based world music label Piranha : Fanfara Tirana from Albania with its “Albanian Wedding”, the new album by the Serbians of the Boban i Marko Markovitch Orkestar “Go Marko Go ! ”, and the Percussions of the Nile lead by Mahmoud Fadl in the collection “For Oriental Dancers”.

Asphalt Tango from Berlin will present its new signature, the Ukrainians of Ersatz Muzika. This band based in Berlin delivers minimalistic songs, ballads that are of great appeal, well beyond the confines of world music.

The live event of the month will be French gypsy/rock band La Caravane Passe “True Fake Wedding”, a “grand spectacle” in the cabaret vein, on January 24 at the big Paris venue Le Bataclan.

The soundtrack of Sean Penn’s latest film as a director, “Into the Wild”, features a title by Lebanese violinist Claude Chalhoub, whom we represent worldwide. The movie has received very good reviews in the U.S. and will be out in France on January 9.
