Posted February 14, 2007At the 49th Annual Grammy Awards Shakira won a Grammy Award for ‘Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals’ for “Hips don’t Lie” with Wyclef Jean, co-published by Termidor and represented by Métisse Music in France. Nancy Wilson’s CD “Turned to Blue” on MCG Jazz won a Grammy for “Best Jazz Vocal Album”. Lyricist of the title KNITTING CLASS from this album is Kaye Dunham, whom we represent through Barking Green Music. Mary Youngblood’s recording for Silver Wave Records has won her second Grammy Award for ‘Best Native American Music Album’. Her latest recording “Dance With The Wind” was honoured with the prestigious award. This is published through Silver Wave Publishing, represented by Métisse Music in France.
Mathis (leader of the band Mathis & the Mathematiks) will be in concert at the Paris venue Divan du Monde on 28th February, with a solo gig. A number of a&r people from French majors and independent labels have confirmed their presence. Following the success of the first album by the band in Spain and France, a new solo CD is in preparation. Mathis continues his collaboration with UK lyricist and ex. Mathematiks band member Seamus Taylor.
Yaron Herman plays a sold out solo concert in Paris on February 15, at the Centre of Jewish Art & History. This young Israeli pianist based in France is a fast rising star of jazz on an international level.
ACT label Solveig Slettahjell artist from Norway will do a quick trip to Paris at the end of the month to promote her new album “Good Rain”, just before a short retirement to look after a new baby, due in April.
Leon Parker, just back in Paris after some very successful concerts in the States with TOP, the Jacky Terrasson Trio, including the Iridium in New York, will retire to Toulouse in the South of France for a month from mid February to work on several personal music projects. He recently played the drums in Paris on some of the tracks of the new CD of his friend jazz singer Elisabeth Kontomanou, due out in the autumn through Nocturne in France.
Manuel Wandji, percussionist from Cameroon, has had great reactions to his concert with a splendid band at the Paris venue Guinguette Pirate on February 10. Apart from his forthcoming US concerts, the group was offered an invitation to play in Mexico and found a touring agent to follow up on future French concerts.
Ani diFranco, has just become the happy and proud mother of a little baby girl, called Petah Lucia DiFranco Napolitano. She will not be touring or recording for a little while. We extend our heartfelt wishes for a happy and healthy life for the little princess to all the family, Ani’s and that of her label Righteous Babe !
