Posted July 25, 2007American trumpet player and composer Jon Hassell has several cues in a new movie production: “Charlie Wilson’s War: The Extraordinary Story of the Largest Covert Operation in History” by George Crile. The book on which the movie is based tells the story of America’s clandestine war against the Soviets in Afghanistan in the 70s and 80s. Main actors are Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts and Philip Seymour Hoffman. Musical director is Ry Cooder.The film is scheduled for the first months of 2008.
Richard Lloyd www.richardlloyd.com (American guitarist and composer, a member of seminal band Television, who are playing their probably last concert in New York in June 2007) will have his new solo album out in the autumn. His “Field of Fire” re-recorded re-release is on the market in the US now via Parasol.
The title ‘Viva Cuba Musica’ by Orgatronics will be featured on the forthcoming ‘CAFÉ DEL MAR - Vol. 14’ which is set for release in June 2007. This is a subtly arranged, Latin American instrumental ambient electronic track by the UK band. .
Ursula Rucker latest album ‘Ma’at Mama’ , released in 2006, is now sub-published by Métisse Music in France, via German publisher SMV.
Japanese composer, producer and musician Jun Miyake album (see latest news April) now also has a track sung by Sanseverino, with lyrics by the successful French artist. Remy Kolpa Kopoul of Radio Nova contributed a great little text which he spoke himself for Jun, and Dhafer Youssef’s oud sounds quite beautiful on another title.
Métisse Music now represents Jack Russell Music. jackrussellmusic.net, a new English catalogue created by ex Greensleeves publisher Clare Ram with her husband Charlie. Guitarist Nguyên Lê (ACT) will play at Sunside on June 12 and 13, with the great E_L_B band composed of Peter Erskine on drums and Michel Benita on double bass. Two nights that promise to be fantastic! .
In the world music context, a special mention for the June launch in France of the full length documentary film “Gypsy Caravan”, directed by Jasmine Dellal, with the participation, amongst others, of the Fanfare Ciocarlia. The film tells the story of an American tour of gypsy music groups of diverse origins: Rumania, Macedonia, Spain, and India.
