Posted January 14, 2009Les Frères Raymond, the twins Tony (piano) and Christophe (violin) who have recently been signed to Métisse Music and who will have their first album on release on April 27 on Lontano Records/Warner, will present their new repertoire for the first time as an opening act for the French star Patricia Kaas during her 9 concerts at the Casino de Paris. Christophe is part of Patricia’s band for her current international tour.
The composer, producer and artist Jun Miyake has been given the German Record Critics Award (“Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik”) for his album “Stolen from Strangers”. The Jazzthing writers (germanys leading publication for jazz/world etc.) have nominated “Stolen from strangers” best CD of the year 2008.
On the occasion of some dates at the Théâtre de la Ville, Paris, in January 2009, the Pina Bausch Dance Ensemble will have on sale a beautiful two album compilation set of the music from their piece “Vollmond”, with some splendid photography from the performance, only on sale with the Dance Theatre’s performances and otherwise, generally available in Japan. The CD set was released by the Japanese label Drape and contains tracks by the Balanescu Quartet, Amon Tobin, René Aubry, Jun Miyake and others.
Matthias Schriefl, the young German jazz trumpet player and his Shreefpunk group will be at the ‘la Villette’ concert hall for a performance on January 6, a concert that is already getting some good write-ups in advance. His album “SHREEFPUNK plus Strings” is out on ACT/Harmonia Mundi in France. The next French ACT/Harmonia releases will be Klaus Paier & Asja Valcic “A DEUX”, a brilliant accordion/cello duet, as well as the surprising project of Norwegian composer Geir Lysne “THE GRIEG CODE”, paying tribute to classical music composer Edvard Grieg. Both will be released end of January.
The new U2 album called “No Line on the Horizon” will be on release on March 2, in five different versions. The album was co-produced by Brian Eno, who also co-wrote with the band. Meanwhile, the activities around Byrne/Eno collaboration “EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENS…” continues, with the forthcoming Byrne dates across Europe attracting new followers. David Byrne will be playing the Olympia in Paris on March 25.
On the “World Music” side, Amsterdam Klezmer Band ’s new album “Zaraza” will be on release on January 26 (Essay Recordings/La Baleine) with a concert at the Paris club ‘la Bellevilloise’ on February 20. The album is a FIP (national French radio) selection.
Also selected by FIP’s programmers is “Dire Dawa” (M&M Records/Nocturne), the beautiful second album by Ethiopian singer Minyeshu.
Last, but not least, Warsaw Village Band, the great young band from Poland, will be on stage for the presentation of their latest album “Infinity” (Jaro/Abeille Musique), at the ‘Divan du Monde’ venue on February 5, as special guests of the “Tsiganes Allstars” DJ Click party, who will do his dj set after the band’s concert.
