Posted February 03, 2009In the World Music charts Europe, the Rumanian group KAL on Asphalt Tango shines at no.3 with “Radio Romanista”, a subtle and original recording.
“Rebel woman” Chiwoniso from Zimbabwe is still very present at no. 5, and the Amsterdam Klezmer Band enters at no. 10 with “Zaraza”. Soon you should be able to discover the exciting and innovative Novalima CD “Coba Coba” from Peru, also on Cumbancha... and meanwhile, Jun Miyake and his “Stolen fron Strangers” enter the World Music charts IFOP at no. 17.
Jon Hassell , the trumpet player and composer, will have his new album “Last night the moon came dropping its clothes in the street” out on ECM Records. The US release on February 3 coincides with the artist’s first US tour in two decades. The European release is planned for March 6. The CD title is a quote from a 13th century poem by Jalaluddin Rumi.
In April 2009, Jon Hassell and Brian Eno deliver their “Conversation Piece” an animated juxtaposing of philosophies of life, art and music, at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall.
Brian Eno has co-written compositions on the current albums of Dido and Jason Donovan.
Peter Togni and Jeff Reilly of Canadian contemporary music trio Sanctuary are working on the production of a new work, “LAMENTATIONS OF JEREMIAH”, to be released on ECM sometime in 2009. The recording is in the editing stages.
Yaron Herman ’s new trio album “MUSE” will be launched in Germany at the Jazz Ahead Festival/convention in Bremen, beginning of April.
Young French singer / author/ composer Louisa Bey ’s second album “TURNING ME JAZZ”(Enja/Yellowbird/Harmonia Mundi), on release in France in March, is already collecting the first excellent reviews in Germany, in the premier jazz magazine Jazz Thing and elsewhere.
